Enjoy the benefits of cycling

Cycling is a great way to get fit, save money, have fun and it is accessible to everyone.

DID YOU KNOW…. You can travel around 6 miles in half an hour on a bicycle at a moderate speed. So if you only live a few miles from work or school, you could be there in no time.

Getting starting is easy

Cycling is a great way to commute to and from work. It can be faster and more reliable than driving at busy times.

Try the Travel Change Calculator to help  work out how much money you could save by cycling. It also calculates how much weight you could lose and CO2 emissions you could save by switching some of your journeys from the car to cycling, walking or public transport.

Where to cycle

Bridgwater is growing and we are investing in the cycle network to give you more options in how you choose to travel. New schemes have been completed to give wider access to cyclists across the area and more schemes are on their way!

View our Explore Somerset online map to find out where you can cycle or walk. We are making a brand new map for Bridgwater which will show you new routes and routes that are planned for the future.  In the meantime, if you need a map to download, feel free to use this cycle map of  Bridgwater

Cycle safely

You can find advice and information for cyclists on the Somerset Road Safety website including:

  • Bikeability – how to book a training course to develop basic riding skills.
  • You and your bike – information on essential equipment, setting your bike up, helmet fitting, bike security and cycling on the road.

Feel good

Include cycling as part of an active lifestyle. Cycling allows you to get some exercise during your normal day and lets you arrive at work or school more awake, alert and able to concentrate.

You can find out more about the health benefits of cycling on the NHS Choices website
